Renewable energy farm step closer
The West Australian by Geoff Vivian
Monday, 15 January 2018
Kalbarri’s electricity users will be drawing an extra 3.5 megawatts of renewable energy if a new solar and wind farm is built at Yallabatharra.
Northampton Shire Council granted development approval for the $7.3 million facility at its December meeting.
When complete, the project will include up to five wind turbines, a ground-mounted solar farm, containerised battery storage unit and a 3.5km overhead power line connecting it to Western Power’s electricity grid.
Advanced Energy Resources, which is part of the Perth-based Castelli group of companies, intends to build and operate the facility at 4601 and 5540 Ogilvie West Road.

WA’s biggest pig farm about to go 100 per cent renewable energy
One Step of the Grid by Giles Parkinson
Tuesday, 23 August 2017
Westpork, WA’s largest pork producer, is about to add wind power and battery storage to its existing solar arrays as part of a plan to go 100 per cent renewable energy and slash their cost of production.
In yet another example of large energy users turning to wind, solar and storage to offset the soaring cost of (fossil-fuel dominated) grid power, Westpork is going to add 1.8MW of wind and some battery storage to the 360kW of roof and ground mounted solar it has already installed.
The project is being led by Advanced Energy Resources, which recently announced a 3MW wind and solar project, boosted by battery storage, to lower costs and boost energy security at the GMA Garnet mine north of Perth. That facility may look to 100 per cent renewables down the track.

Australian pork producer starts on road towards renewable energy at piggeries
ABC Rural By Joanna Prendergast
Tuesday, 22 August 2017
One of Australia’s largest pork producers plans to operate its four piggeries in Western Australia on 100 per cent renewable energy.
Westpork has taken the first steps of a $4 million, 2.2 megawatt wind and solar project with the installation of solar systems at three of its properties.

AER to build $8m wind, solar farm in Mid‑West for GMA Garnet
The West Australian by Stuart McKinnon
Friday, 30 June 2017
The project, which includes a battery storage component, will supply almost 70 per cent of the mine’s electricity requirements, allowing GMA Garnet to reduce its carbon footprint by about 5000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
The project will generate enough electricity to power 1700 Australian homes each year. The project’s wind turbines have already arrived in Perth and project approvals are underway, with commissioning expected early in 2019.

AER to build solar, wind farm for GMA Garnet
Business News
Friday, 30 June 2017
Perth-based Advanced Energy Resources has won an $8 million contract to build and operate a three megawatt wind and solar farm to power GMA Garnet Group’s Port Gregory mine near Kalbarri.
AER is a subsidiary of Castelli Group, which was established by United Engineering co-founder Sam Castelli. It will build, own and operate the wind and solar farm, which will supply an initial 70 per cent of the garnet mine’s electricity needs. The renewable energy project, which will incorporate battery storage technology, is expected to be commissioned early in 2019. The project was announced at the Energy and Mines Australia Summit in Perth this morning.

Friday, 30 June 2017
A garnet mining company in Western Australia has become the nation’s latest big energy user to turn to renewables, for a cheaper and more reliable supply of industrial energy.
The Australian arm of the world’s largest industrial garnet producer, GMA Garnet, has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with WA-based Advanced Energy Resources for the output of a 3MW wind and solar farm with battery storage, to be built south of Kalbarri, Western Australia.
The deal – announced at the Global Renewables in Mining Summit in Perth on Friday – will see AER build, own and operate the $8 million project, which will also be the first grid connected wind and solar farm with battery storage in the state.
